An overview

The first business school in the world was founded in Paris in 1819 – ESCP Europe, some years after such universities appeared in the USA, Canada, South Africa and Asia. Nowadays, there are several forms of business schools, in most cases b-schools are faculties, colleges or departments in a university. However the number of institutions teaching only business is increasing.

Main courses 

Business Schools are higher education institutions where one can study Business Administration, Management, MBA and EMBA. Core courses in every graduate or postgraduate program are: accounting, administration, strategy, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, information systems, logistics, marketing, organizational psychology, etc.

Development and tuitions

Everything started in Europe, but when the United States invested in their business schools in the beginning of the 20th century, the landscape changed, new methods were developed and collaborations were established. To study MBA or EMBA or Managerial masters in the States you will have to prepare for a tuition fees between $50 000 and $150 000. The average Masters from the top Business School in Europe is around 54 000 – 70 000 euro. In Central and Eastern Europe the price of the Masters programs is lower. From the leading 75 Business Schools in Europe 21 are in Great Britain and 18 in France. Other leading countries in the list are Spain, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany.

Admission in a business school

To be admitted, you will have to prepare for an exam, an interview and to fill several forms with information about yourself. GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, IELTS and iBT are the exams one must take in order to apply for the great part of business schools around the world. After the exams, you will be required to fill different forms of documents (depending on the institution) with information about yourself and to write an essay and/or motivation letter. The last step is the personal interview, where a representative from the department, where you apply will also ask you about your past studies, experience and motivation for the future.
