Master in Sustainable Management and Operations (SuMO) at the Kühne Logistics University (KLU)

Our Master in Sustainable Management and Operations (SuMO) is a part-time program that offers you the unique opportunity to flexibly and efficiently acquire the conceptual foundations of sustainable management and to learn how to effectively transfer knowledge to create real impact. SuMO integrates state-of-the-art scientific expertise with a holistic and interconnected perspective on sustainability. Our cutting-edge blended learning format makes best use of your time. We effectively align innovative online learning modules with highly interactive on-campus sessions at KLU in Hamburg. Interactive class discussions and teamwork allow you to transfer basic business concepts to applications in the field of sustainability. The 'Sustainable Impact project' module exposes you to the substantive challenges associated with sustainability and offers you an immersive, holistic, and real-life learning experience. Through SuMO, you acquire the necessary skills for a career in sustainable management and operations and learn how to effectively tackle grand challenges.

Master in Sustainable Management and Operations (SuMO): Study content

The program consists of 6 five-day sessions integrated into 5 online blended learning phases (Mar 2023 – Feb 2024) with an innovative and flexible learning concept in teaching in block face-to-face seminars as well as online. The 18 months Master program consists of nine modules, including The Big Picture, Sustainable Supply Chains, Green Logistics and Operations and a Sustainability Impact Project. There is also an optional Certificate Program which takes twelve months and consists of the same modules, without the Master Thesis.

Master in Sustainable Management and Operations (SuMO): Career

Students of the program are young professionals and managers with leadership ambition and a minimum of two years of work experience. They should have a previous degree in management/economics or engineering/information systems. They will be equipped with the skills to critically assess how sustainable an organization is, to measure and report the sustainability footprint of a company and its supply chain, and to lead the sustainability agenda of an organization.

Master in Sustainable Management and Operations (SuMO): Admission

The admission requirements of the program are:

 

  • Admission with a bachelor's degree with 180-240 ECTS or equivalent from a recognized university or college.
  • Enrollment without a first academic degree possible subject to an entrance exam (GMAT).
  • 2 years of work experience.
  • English proficiency proven by: TOEFL (IBT 90), IELTS (Band 6.5) or CAE/CPE (grade C). The TOEFL, IELTS or an equivalent certificate must not be older than 2 years at the time of submitting the application. Exceptions and waivers can be applied for and will be decided on an individual basis.
  • Entry interview with the academic director.

Master in Sustainable Management and Operations (SuMO): KLU

KLU offers a variety of scholarships for SuMO applicants.

 

If your company is a member of the networks AGA, BVL or LIHH, KLU offers one 50% scholarship each, that you can apply for.

 

Graduates from Common Purpose programs are offered a 50 % scholarship. If you have completed one of the programs, you can apply for this scholarship.

 

Furthermore, KLU offers a 50 % regional scholarship to applicants from developing countries who plan on working in their home countries upon completion of their studies, as well as a 50% scholarship for applicants who work in the humanitarian sector for NGOs.

 

If you would like to apply for one of the above-mentioned scholarships, please submit the scholarship application form, a letter of motivation as well as confirmation proving that you are eligible for the scholarship you are applying for.
Application deadline for scholarships: February 3.
