Laws (LL.M)
The Master of Laws (LL.M) is a two-year programme taught in English worth 120 ECTS credits. It offers a number of case-oriented courses in a modular setup within a broad range of legal fields. Specifically, you will experience a law-in-context approach in three chosen modules from a list of five: 1) European Constitutionalism and Fundamental Rights; 2) Sustainable Development and Global Justice; 3) Commercial Transactions & Disputes; 4) Commercial Transactions: Rights & Governance; and 5) Diversity and Law. You will also have the opportunity to develop research skills and make use of our partnerships with excellent universities across the globe by spending a semester abroad.

Year one
A common first semester with fixed mandatory courses and methodological research and communication skills. The courses are focused on the foundations of International and European legal disciplines. In the second semester of year one, you choose one of the modules 'Commercial Transactions and Disputes', 'European Constitutionalism and Fundamental Rights' or 'Sustainable Development and Global Justice'. You also write the research proposal for the thesis in year two and engage in a legal clinic.
Year two
In the first semester of year two, you choose one of the modules 'Commercial Transactions: Rights and Governance' or 'Diversity and the Law' or opt for a mobility window (semester abroad). In the second semester of year two, you choose one of the modules 'Commercial Transactions and Disputes', 'European Constitutionalism and Fundamental Rights' or 'Sustainable Development and Global Justice' or opt for a mobility window (semester abroad).
During the first and or second semester of year two, you take one or two elective courses.
During year two you write and defend the master thesis.

This degree is equivalent to the Flemish degree of ‘Master in de Rechten’. For admission to the legal profession in Belgium (the ‘bar’), a Belgian Bachelor of Laws is required in addition to this Master’s degree.
