Sustainable Business Transition at the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht

The state-of-the-art and future-oriented Master Sustainable Business Transition (SBT) trains you, as the business professional of tomorrow, to work in the new economy. Learn about sustainable change, creativity and technology. Become a transition expert and system thinker who tackles complex problems in the work field. Develop sustainable business models, reflect on the ethical impact of technologies, and work with clients on real-life cases. As a transition expert, you help companies innovate in a way that benefits the community and the world.

 

The transition to a new economy offers many chances, but also comes with challenges and threats for companies. To navigate this complex and uncertain future, businesses need a new type of professional with a radically different mindset, knowledge and skills. During this Master's programme you will learn how to tackle this changing business landscape.

Sustainable Business Transition: Study content

In the first module, you specialise in sustainable business development and the circular economy. You learn to develop sustainable solutions for existing companies. You learn to evaluate different sustainable, circular and inclusive business models. You will learn to create sustainable business models, analyse complex systems, and propose a sustainable business model.

 

In module 2, you will look at the ethical and social consequences of business models, and learn to look at the long-term consequences of “Big Tech”. You analyse new technologies and look towards the future to tackle deeper questions of power, surveillance, inclusion and value.

 

In the module Graduate, you will have to apply all the competences of SBT in a high-level individual project.

Sustainable Business Transition: Career

Once you graduate, you are a business transition expert. You can work in different functions and even develop yourself further as a Chief of Sustainability Officer. Above all, you will be a responsible, global professional who can accompany businesses in large-scale transitions and changes.

 

For example, you can start working as: 

 

  • Chief Sustainability Officer
    • Manage an organisation's initiatives relating to sustainability and/or corporate social responsibility (CSR).
  • Transition Facilitator
    • Coordinate and implement large-scale transitions and change management initiatives throughout an organisation.
  • Sustainable Marketing Professional
    • Create marketing strategies and  content for brands or organisations to promote sustainable products and practices. 
  • Consumer Strategy Lead
    • Research consumer insights to achieve better and more sustainable products or designs.

Sustainable Business Transition: Admission

If you want to start with the Master SBT, you need to have a Bachelors degree in the economic domain. Do you have an accredited Bachelor's degree from a different domain? Then you need at least 60 credits in courses taken in the economic domain, such as business, entrepreneurship and/or management.

 

Additionally, you are required to have a good command of English as demonstrated by an IELTS or TOEFL certificate (see English proficiency below for more details).

 

Note that this is a selective Master's programme. Before starting, you need to pass our matching procedure as described below.
