In 2011/12, the University had supported a whopping 42% of the total number of the recorded graduate start-ups in Scotland!
There are currently six operational companies that are spin-outs of Edinburgh Napier University. This allows for research collaboration and encourages economic activity.
Employability and entrepreneurship are strongly encouraged and supported through the partnership with Entrepreneurial Spark. This is an incubator model backed by some of Scotland’s leading business people where entrepreneurs assisted in the incubator receive six months of intensive support, advice and networking opportunities. These models are located across Scotland and Edinburgh Napier University provided the incubator space to enable the network to open its operations in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh Napier University also runs Bright Red Ventures and the Moffat Centre to provide support, advice and mentoring to students and graduates. These facilities have supported over 1,200 students since 2004, and spawned 253 businesses, of which 158 are still active. In addition, Bright Red Triangle recruits undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students as junior consultants and pairs them with a staff member to complete projects for external organisations. Over the last year, Bright Red Triangle has taken on 60 junior consultants and almost 40 projects have been delivered.
